There are few ways in which a film can heighten the drama more so than including the element of gambling. This is fairly obvious for anyone that bets regularly, as it means that there is heightened drama focused on the table, as well as what the story surrounding the film actually is.

There have been countless films that have incorporated casino games throughout history, and below, we will look at four of the best that have managed to raise the level of drama.

Ocean’s Eleven

With a cast include George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, there was always going to be a swanky feel to Ocean’s Eleven. That was heightened by the first scenes in the movie that saw Pitt and Clooney sitting at a poker table impeccable dressed. There are no shortage of casino scenes throughout the film, which helps raise the drama, while also betting the kind of money on games that mere mortals could only dream of.

The film includes gambling narratives throughout the story, most fittingly when Clooney’s character recalled that the ‘house always wins’. It was one of the most commercially successful gambling-related films of all-time, taking over $450 million worldwide and finishing 2001 as the fifth-highest grossing film.

Molly’s Game

One of the best gambling films released is Molly’s Game. The film is based on the true story of Molly Bloom, who after a skiing accident takes up a life in underground poker. The film tells the story of how Bloom became the queen of the underground scene, which includes no shortage of heartbreaking scenes. Among those include a gambler by the name of Bill Camp, who loses everything playing the game. Nowadays, it is more straightforward to play games at CasinoDays.

Jessica Chastain stars as the main character, and she was given rave reviews for her performance as Bloom. That led to her being nominated for the Best Actress Award at the Golden Globes. Meanwhile, director Aaron Sorkin was nominated for awards at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes and Academy Awards. The film took $59.3 million at the box office, and was released in 2017.

Casino

Many consider Casino to be one of the best films to have every been made. The A-List cast includes Robert De Niro as Ace, as well as Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone. The latter won an award at the Academy Award for her portrayal of Ginger McKenna. For any fan obsessed with the ins and outs of Las Vegas, then this is sure to rank among their favourite films of all-time. The story shows Ace, as he tries to do things the ‘right way’.

The film does an excellent job of showing the stranglehold on Sin City that the Mob had, and how Ace had no other choice but to follow through on the wishes and oversee day-to-day operations. The film is one of the best Martin Scorsese films to have been released, and was the eight collaboration between the director and De Niro. It was a monster hit, and took over $116 million at the box office.
