Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

And rightly so. Over the years, we’ve interpreted beauty in multiple ways. Some have led to challenging debates while others we’ve happily complied to. We’ve found people who’ve religiously followed and lived up to beauty standards and we’ve also seen the likes of Frida Kahlo, the poster-child of unibrows, famous for making self-portraits and challenging conventional beauty trends.
This piece is dedicated to her. To reinstate her ideas, illustrator Gavin Aung Than , a freelance cartoonist who ” takes inspirational quotes from famous people and adapts them into cartoons,” picked one of Frida’s quotes to make this comic strip. The illustrations depict a young girl struggling with a bushy unibrow. She wants to get rid of it because it makes her look ‘ugly’. But does it? Check out how she overcomes her struggle to finally accept herself:

These illustrations speak louder than words. From where I see it, it’s a lovely revelation and learning for all of us.
