Vinesh Phogat is an Indian female wrestler who has famous cousins like international wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari. The 23-year-old wrestler from Haryana has quite a few accolades to her credit. Vinesh Phogat’s first international medal was at the 2013 Asian Wrestling Championship where she won a bronze. Then, she went on to win silver at the 2013 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship. In 2014, Vinesh Phogat represented India in 48 kg freestyle wrestling category at the Commonwealth Games and won the gold. In the same year, the wrestler won the bronze medal at the Asian Games.

However, in the year 2016, an unfavourable phase set in for the young wrestler as she lost the quarterfinals to China’s wrestler owing to a severe knee injury. At that time, it was speculated that the injury could bring Phogat’s wrestling career to an end.

And after a gap of almost two years, Vinesh Phogat returned to the ring in 2018 and proved herself yet again at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games by winning the gold. But what she has done most recently has created a historical moment in wrestling for India.
Now she grabbed the gold by beating Japan’s Yuki Irie after dominating the fight completely with an initial lead of 4-0 and then taking it to 6-0. Here are some pictures from Vinesh Phogat’s historical victory moment
