India-set European-backed feature film “In The Shadows” will complete principal photography next week in the walled city of old Delhi.

The film is a psychological drama about a man who is trapped within the city walls and in his own mind. He attempts to break free to find a human connection.

Los Angeles-based feature debutant director, Dipesh Jain said: “I want to tell a story that is simple to follow and connects emotionally, but structurally it is intricate, so the audience is forced to put the pieces of the puzzle together.”

The cast includes Indian actors Manoj Bajpayee (“Aligarh”,) Ranvir Shorey, Neeraj Kabi (“Ship of Theseus”,) and Shahana Goswami (“Midnight’s Children”) along with Belgian actress Laura Verlinden (“The Brand New Testament”.)

U.K.-based production company Exstant Motion Pictures, founded by Shuchi Jain, produces alongside Germany based independent Swiss producer Lena Vurma, who is also the head of acquisitions for German distributor NFP (“The Lunchbox”, “Toni Erdmann”.)

The producers and director met in 2013 at the Indian National Film Development Corporation’s annual Film Bazaar event in Goa. Their collaboration began in 2015.

Post-production is expected to take place in the U.S., with sound mixing at the Skywalker Sound facility in San Francisco. Delivery is planned for Jan. 2017.

The producers are in talks with Indian distributors for a theatrical release after the film bows at an international festival. An international sales agent is expected to be confirmed later this year.
