While numerous things around 2016 make it the year that we essentially abhorred, it was a generally decent year for ladies in Bollywood, as they gave some of their best exhibitions. Sonam Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt, Radhika Apte, and Anushka Sharma met up for Rajeev Masand’s yearly roundtable meeting, and talked about everything from kid sexual manhandle to the specialized path in which suggest scenes are shot.
Here are some of the most notable things they spoke about:
Sonam Kapoor: “I was going to watch a Raveena Tandon-Akshay Kumar film to Gaiety Theatre. I was with my girlfriends. We were 14. We had gone outside to get samosas and I was the last while coming back, being the tallest, and a man came from behind and held my breasts. I started shaking and shivering, not knowing what was going on. I was crying but I sat and watched the film. I just felt I had done something wrong. I didn’t talk about it for a good two years. I know a lot many people who’ve gone through stuff like this.”
Vidya Balan: “I had this lovemaking scene with Sanjay Dutt and, you know, he had his eyes shut! And I asked dada, “Why are his eyes shut? Is it me?”
Alia Bhatt: “I’m tired and bored of looking at people behaving properly all the time, especially the actresses. (We are) meant to be proper, and good, and moral, and just.”
Radhika Apte: “Post Parched, I started questioning morality and ethics. I’ve been reading so much about it since. I think I am very liberal and progressive, but there are some very basic fundamental things in me which I haven’t questioned yet.”
Anushka Sharma: “Your understanding of this world widens because of cinema, and I’m not saying that we should only do socially relevant films, but yes, it does open up your mind to something much, much larger than yourself.”
