As work conditions become more flexible as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, working from home isn’t going to die out any time soon. Whether you use your home office once a week or fulltime, here are five easy ways to improve your work space.

Invest in a comfortable chair.

You spend close to forty hours a week sitting in your office chair, so it’s important that it is comfortable and supportive. There’s nothing worse than standing up for your lunch break, only to find that you back is incredibly stiff and sore from sitting in an uncomfortable chair. Care for you back and “Protect Ya Neck!,” as RZA famously said on Wu-Tang Clan Enter The Wu-Tang.

Set up near a source of natural light.

Numerous studies have determined that sitting near a source of natural light dramatically increases productivity levels. If your home office is not already set up near a natural light source, you should genuinely consider the benefits of moving your work space closer to a window, door, or skylight.

Tidy, tidy, tidy.

Desk clutter is guaranteed to increase stress levels and decrease productivity. You may have heard the saying, “tidy space, tidy mind,” and that certainly rings true when it comes to your home office. Move that stack of books somewhere else. Even if they are the best fantasy books of all time, you need to limit the number of items on your desk, so you can direct your focus into
your work.

Buy a plant.

Make the air you’re breathing fresh and pure by adding a house plant to your work space. Plants have been linked with stress relief, lower blood pressure, increased comfort and repelling germs. Aside from the health benefits, house plants can increase your productivity by 15%. There are literally no negatives.

Upgrade your internet speed

Now, obviously this isn’t financially suitable for everyone, but if you have a bit of spare cash in your budget, faster internet is invaluable. If you can knock off half of your day’s buffering time, you’ll be surprised with how much work you will get done.
These are just some of our suggestions, but have fun with your home office set-up. Personal creativity is what makes the space yours.
