J.K. Rowling is an inspiration to billions of people the world over. The words she wove instilled magic in young hearts and old, and her story of how Harry Potter came to life in a train journey is a legend in itself.
But Rowling had to battle a lot of adversaries on her path to success. A failed marriage, almost no money to live on, and a young daughter to care for, Rowling had nothing going on for her but sheer willpower and the desire to move on. Talking about her journey and the failures she faced, Rowling made this moving speech in her commencement address at the Annual Meeting of the Harvard Alumni Association, 2008, titled ‘The Fringe Benefits of Failure, and the Importance of Imagination’.
Watch this video by Hicham Bennir which shows that like one of the characters in her own story, Rowling greeted failure with open arms, like an old friend.
