His passion: to swim. His Dream: to be an Olympian.

This is a courageous story of Ibrahim Al-Hussein, a Syrian and a swimmer who dreamt of participating in the Olympic games. His dreams were put on hold when during the Syrian war in 2012, he rushed to help a friend who was injured during a bombing and was hit by a bomb himself and his right leg had to be amputated from the mid-calf down.

However, being not the one to give up, in 2014, Ibrahim sought asylum in Greece and continued to pursue his eternal love for swimming. In an incredible announcement, by The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Ibrahim Al-Hussein will be the Olympic torch bearer in Athens on 26th of April.

Watch this touching story in a video uploaded by United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

We salute Ibrahim Al-Hussein’s commendable strength and spirit.
