In a patriarchal society like India’s, ladies thinking less of themselves and belittling their own quality is liable to happen. ‘Ladki ho, ladkiyon waale kaam karo’ is something that I have more than frequently as a child. We were taught to maintain a strategic distance from meeting with potential eve-teasers, wear ‘proper garments’ and not stay out of house till late in the night. Why weren’t the men taught to regard ladies better?
